AF8 Spelling

Starter:

Give your partner a pair of words to use in 2 separate sentences. Endings can be changed e.g. practise ---> practised

practise / practice
advice / advise
accept / except

Use a dictionary to check your partner's work and make a note of your own errors if there are any.

Intro:

What might look like ‘tests’ in English are actually opportunities for AfL – a ‘stop & check’ to see where we are, what we have achieved & what we can do to move forward

The AF we will focus on today is WAF8 (spelling) so first we need to assess our current ability.

Listen to the words & write them

Now check your words on SLIDE 2 of this presentation. How many did you get right?

Development:

Now, work through the rest of the presentation focusing on the different methods for remembering words. Say them out loud, repeat them to yourself and don't rush!

Repeat the test

Main:

Start a spelling record in the back of your workbook for recording words you spell wrongly

Go to this page via KN where you can work independently on you spelling skills, adding to your list as they go

In pairs, test each other using 5 words from your spelling records

Plenary:

On a scale of 1-5 how much have you improved your understanding of how to deal with spelling?

What can you do next to build on this learning?
